A day in the life of a Courier
Morning
About 8.30am after breakfast, I have to walk down to the reception as this is my main duty for today. I have to open up and start cleaning the windows and setting out the furniture, watering the plants and updating the Weather Board! (Sunny today) I then get on with some paperwork- checking the booking faxes that have arrived overnight and update the Booking Charts. I also check the Daily Site Planner for the day’s arrivals.
The rest of the team are back at the live area with the Team Leader who allocates everyone’s cleans, They have 4 or more each today- I only have 3 as I am on Reception; normally it would be a few more. I check the Site planner for any special requests (families with young children often ask for Cots and High Chairs). We have these in our Store Tent so I make a note to collect them on my way to my first clean.
Soon customers are coming to the reception, so I deal with their queries and offer them suggestions on days out. One family mentions a quiet little beach they’ve found a short cycle away – I think I’ll head down there on my next day off! I also say goodbye to some families that are leaving and help them check their route to the port.
At around 9.30am after morning reception I head off to prepare the accommodation for this afternoon’s arrivals. I get everything I need from the Store Tent, then I get stuck in! I clean from room to room making sure everything is done- before I know it I’m vacuuming the last room and the Mobile Home is spotles s. Feeling pleased with myself, I move on to the next one.
After I have completed my cleans, I have to be on reception at 15:00, so I quickly head to the living area, make some lunch and chat to my friends. I get changed ready to greet the afternoon arrivals, and then I’m back at the Reception (my hard work this morning really paid off!) The families will soon be arriving. I show them in to their accommodation and make them feel at home telling them about the facilities on-site and passing on the local knowledge I’ve gained cycling around on my days off (you get pretty fit doing this job!). I get a real sense of pride when they remark on how clean their accommodation is!
The rest of the day is pretty varied – I make sure any gas bottle changes, small maintenance jobs and any customer requests are done before giving the Store Tent a quick tidy up. Before I finish for the day I decide to go to visit the Parker family who arrived a few days ago. I find out if there’s anything they need and we chat about what they’ve been doing and what they plan to do. They offer me a cold drink (which is much appreciated as it’s been very hot today!) They also invite me to join their BBQ so I arrange to go back later.
The last job of the day is to check in the reception for any messages then I change and go back for the BBQ. Later, I meet up with the rest of my team- Some of them are relaxing in the live area, but it’s my day off tomorrow so a few of us get ready to head into the local town.
