A Day in The Life of a Tumble Tots Courier

Today, we’re off to Benodet for the day, which is only a 15 minute drive from our base site in Beg-Meil. Our furthest trip is down to Carnac, which takes us an hour and a half - it’s an early start and a long day, but it’s great to visit different campsites and catch up with all the courier teams each week.We take it in turns to lead the sessions each day, which gives us extra responsibility and variety.

We make sure all the equipment we need is in the van, and make ourselves a packed lunch as we’ll be there for the day. We set off at 08:45 so that we arrive on site at 09:00. We go and see the couriers first, to check whether they have any messages for us - sometimes customers have questions about the service and it’s nice to go and see them before the sessions start.

We head over to our Tumble Tots tent - it’s right next to the Fun Station tents, so we have a quick chat with the children’s couriers before starting our preparation. We need to check that the tent’s in good condition, maybe give it a quick brush if it’s looking dusty. Then we put down our groundsheet, making sure that it’s clean and secure before we lay out all our play equipment. The Tumble Tots equipment is fantastic, we create a circuit of equipment, a bit like an obstacle course, for the children to go round - Tumble Tots is all about developing the children’s agility, balance and coordination. We have to make sure the equipment is laid out properly, and everything is put together safely. Once the circuit is laid out, we set up our reception area, put on our background music and wait for our first parents and children to arrive.

We run 5 sessions a day, each for a different age range of child. Our first session is for babies, of crawling to walking age. After this session, we have to change the equipment round quite a bit, ready for the walking to two years session. The programme is slightly different for each age range and is more challenging for the older ones. We also have circle time, where we get the children to sing action songs and the older ones tell us about what they’ve been doing on their holidays. After three sessions, we have our lunch - we get an hour and a half for lunch, so we try and visit as many new customers as possible during this time, this helps make sure we get as many children as possible interested in the service. We also manage to get a bit of time at the swimming pool - very refreshing after a busy morning!

We run another two sessions in the afternoon, including a parachute session for all ages. Once the sessions are finished and we’ve said goodbye to our last children, it’s time to pack the equipment back into the van. We check with the couriers before we leave to see if there are any new messages and try and fit in some more visits if there are some new arrivals still to see.

We get back to our base site at about 17:30 - it’s nice to relax with the courier team and talk about our day. Being a Tumble Tots courier means that you get to move around the area, seeing different campsites and meeting different courier teams, which is a real bonus. We’re off on Saturday, so we plan a trip to the beach as the forecast says it’s going to be sunny. Finally, we head to the campsite bar for a quick drink. Some of the toddlers recognise us and we chat to their parents for a while, before heading back to our tents. Off to Carnac tomorrow, so we’ve got an early start!
